Hazel V. Purvis

Hazel V. Purvis, 90, of Mars died Monday morning at L.A.S. St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.

Born Feb. 10, 1926, in Mars, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Darvin and Ida Hartung Purvis.

Hazel was a beautician, having her own shop, the Hazel Beauty Salon, and was a personal caregiver for many residents in the area.

She was a member of the Dutilh United Methodist Church, Mars campus, where she was the oldest longtime member and a Sunday school teacher for 30 years. She was a member of the Silver Sneakers, the Wayside Garden Club, the Mars Eastern Star, the Mars VFW, the Mars Firemen and the Mars American Legion ladies auxiliaries and the Red Hat Society.

Hazel loved to dance, play 500, have fun, and be the life of the party whenever and wherever she was. Her laughter would brighten up your day and make you laugh.

Surviving are her brother, Mac Purvis Sr. of Valencia; her nieces and nephews, Jan (Wally) Mellor, Susan (John) Salter, Mac (Karen) Purvis Jr., Robert Purvis, Clarence (Betty) Purvis, Peggi Landis, Eleanor (Don) Cupps and Gerald Purvis; and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Avril and Dean Purvis; her sister, Dorothy Purvis Barton; and two nephews, Darvin Barton and Thomas Purvis.

PURVIS — Friends of Hazel V. Purvis, who died Monday, July 11, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Mars Cemetery, Adams Township.Memorials may be made to Penn Mar Plaza Tenant's Association, P.O. Box 868, Mars, PA 16046.
