Groundbreaking close for relocated softball fields

ADAMS TWP — Construction on the relocation of two softball fields in the Mars School District will start soon.

Brett Schultz, clerk of works for this project, announced to the school board Thursday morning that groundbreaking for the fields will be the week before Labor Day.

“Hopefully we don’t see any hiccups, and we can get going,” Schultz said.

The fields, planned for use by the junior varsity and varsity softball teams, will be on the east and west sides of the Centennial School. Most of the work is expected to be done by the end of fall.

The project is one of several that is being funded by a $10 million bond the school board approved earlier this year.

The current fields by the school administrative offices will be remain district property.

“It is my understanding they will remain in some degree the shape they’re in now,” Schultz said.

The decision for the field relocation stems from parking issues and a need for a better location, Schultz said.

“I’m happy to see the school district move ahead with a capitol improvement that is warranted and needed,” he said. “We’re looking toward a good project.”

Schultz will be paid no more than $1,500 total for his work on the project.
