Gloria R. Heemer
Gloria R. Heemer of Saxonburg passed away Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford.
She was born on July 18, 1936, to Ann and Louis Jerry of Lyndora.
Gloria graduated as an RN from Butler Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 and received her bachelor's degree in nursing in 1979 from Slippery Rock University. She worked as a nurse at Butler Hospital and later at the Butler Veterans Affairs until her retirement in 1997.
She served as a board member with the Mental Health Association of Butler and also as a board member with the Butler Area on Aging. She actively volunteered with Meals on Wheels of Butler and was a long-standing member of the Butler Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Alumni. She was very active in her church as a Eucharist minister.
Gloria was fortunate to be a part of a group of nurses who have had a “50- year card club” meeting monthly. She also enjoyed membership in the Red Hats Society, and rumor has it she was the “life of the party.” Her passions were to travel, garden and enjoy friends and family.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Sally, and her husband, Joseph Naret, of Zelienople; her brother, Lou and his wife, Carol, Jerry, of Butler; and John and his wife, Barbara, Jerry, of Dubois, Pa., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
