High-speed chase ends in crash
A high-speed chase that started in Butler on Thursday ended with a two-vehicle accident, an on-foot pursuit and a drug bust in Butler Township.
Butler police responded to a report of suspected drug activity at 200 E. Pearl St. in Butler, where Deonta Marcus Mobley, 20, of Pittsburgh was in a parked Chevrolet Impala.
As the police turned their car around, Mobley drove north onto North McKean Street. Police attempted to stop the car, using their lights and siren, but Mobley sped onto Main Street driving as fast as 80 mph, according to the report.
Police pursued him until he reached the intersection of Route 8 and one of the Clearview Mall exits. Mobley crossed over the median between the mall’s entrance and exit lanes, where Ryan Ramage, 33, of Butler was sitting in his Chevrolet Equinox waiting at the stoplight to turn left onto Route 8, according to the report.
Ramage was not injured.
The Impala plowed into the driver’s side of the Equinox, coming to a halt. Mobley got out of the vehicle and fled. Police apprehended him as he was running from a wooded area near Clearview Mall, according to an arrest document.
Mobley had $1,446 in cash on him, as well as a small purple pill with a heart-shaped stamp on it, suspected to be ecstasy, according to the report.
The Impala was towed due to the damage, but not before police found in plain view “bricks” of heroin, a plastic bag containing a pack of cigarettes which contained a small amount of marijuana, and a plastic bag containing an off-white substance suspected to be crack cocaine, according to the police report.
The bricks of heroin contained a total of 101 stamp bags of suspected heroin marked “9 ave,” and a field test of a stamp bag tested positive for heroin. The crack cocaine, which weighed 5.3 grams, also tested positive.
The bag of marijuana weighed 1.4 grams.
Mobley was charged with a felony count of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
He also was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, recklessly endangering another person, three charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana, all misdemeanors.
He also was charged with operating a vehicle without official certificate of inspection and sun screening and other materials prohibited, both summary offenses.
Mobley was found to be wanted in Cambria and Allegheny counties. Mobley is in Butler County Prison awaiting his preliminary hearing. He is unable to post bail.
