Mars grad takes first in Pgh. Great Race
PITTSBURGH — A Mars High School graduate left nearly 10,000 people in his dust Sunday when he won an annual 10 kilometer race through the streets of Pittsburgh.
Nick Edinger, 25, won the men's 10K division of the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race with a time of 30 minutes and 36 seconds, according to the race's website. Organizers said 9,951 people registered for the 10K run.
Edinger also won the 5-mile Butler Road Race on June 25 with a time of 25 minutes and 25 seconds.
Edinger, who currently lives in Kent, Ohio, graduated from Mars in 2009, according to records kept by The Butler Eagle. The school district said Edinger participated in cross country and track and field during his high school career.
Edinger went on to attend Geneva College, where he was a standout runner — qualifying for the NCAA national indoor track tournament in multiple events and breaking or tying multiple school records in track and field. In 2012, Edinger posted the fastest 5,000 meter time in school history, according to Geneva's website.
Edinger graduated from Geneva in 2013 with a bachelor of science degree in psychology.
