Joseph F. Damiano
Joseph F. Damiano of Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away at his residence Friday morning. He was 91.
Joe was born in New Castle on Aug. 12, 1925, to Patrick and Catherine Vascetti Damiano.
He married Helen Faye Ufner in 1953, and she preceded him in death in January 1984. Joe later married Sylvia “Toppy” Thompson Kelly in March 1987.
He retired from Armco Steel of Butler in 1987 where he was a furnace tender for more than 30 years.
Joe was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Grove City. He was a veteran with the United States Navy during World War II, and he served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia “Toppy” at home; two sons, Patrick Damiano and his wife, Eveline, of Asheville, N.C. and Jon Damiano and his wife, Debbie, of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Antoinette Borio and her husband, Frank, of West Middlesex, Pa.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Faye Damiano; stepson, Terry Kelly, and two sisters, Lucy Mitolo and Marie Colangelo.
