Donald H. Palmer

Donald H. Palmer, 85, of Franklin, Pa., passed away Thursday morning, surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 28, 1931, in Butler, he was the son of the late Richard G. Palmer and Doris Meddiker Palmer.

He attended Butler Area Schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17. He served his country for four years and was honorably discharged.

Donald first worked at Armco Steel in Butler, and then went into business with George Kerr Inc. He later bought the business in Franklin from Kerr and owned Palmer T.V. and Appliances on Liberty Street for more than 20 years. When ill health forced him to close the business, he obtained his real estate brokers license and worked for many years at Dale Wilson's office.

Don was a people person and enjoyed working there very much. Don also enjoyed wheeling and dealing at yard sales and car shows.

He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Butler, New Castle Consistory and Zem Zem Temple of Shriners in Erie for more than 50 years. Don was a wonderful, caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother. He will be dearly missed.

Don is survived by his wife, Aileen, of almost 65 years; four children, Bruce Palmer and his wife, Connie Jo, Carol Santoyo and her husband, Stan, Deborah Law and her husband, Tim, all of Franklin, Pa., and Leanne Darling and her husband, Scott, of Newburgh, Ind., and a brother, Richard J. Palmer. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren, Nathan and Korey Dunlap, Richard Palmer, Julie Fowler and her husband, Nate, Sarah Palmer and Nick and Jared Darling. His special little ray of sunshine, his great-granddaughter, Bethany Dunlap, also survives.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one grandson, Scott Darling Jr. and a brother, Dale E. Palmer.

PALMER — Family and friends of Donald H. Palmer, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, are welcome from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Huff Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 312 W. Park St., Franklin.Another visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Roy Gearhart, pastor of Galloway United Methodist Church, officiating.Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by the V.E.T.S.
