Alvin Wayne Durnell

Alvin Wayne Durnell, 87, of Worth Township, Butler County, passed away at Butler Memorial Hospital on Thursday.

He was born on April 27, 1929, on the family farm in Worth Township, to Jonathan Casper Durnell and Mary Frances Stickel Durnell.

He married Bertha Marie Cornelius on Aug. 27, 1954, and they recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. He had worked at Agway in Slippery Rock; Mathews Conveyor in Ellwood City and retired from PennDOT. He was a member of Friendship Parish and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha at home; his daughter, Karen L. Piper (Gary) of Butler; his son, Randall “Randy” Durnell (Tammy) of Slippery Rock; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Evans and Lawrence; and two sisters, Twila Davis and Paulene Shelar.

DURNELL — The family of Alvin Wayne Durnell, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donna Yanosy presiding.Interment will be in Zion Baptist Cemetery, Worth Township.
