William Edward Scherder

William Edward Scherder, 77, passed away Tuesday at his home in Saxonburg.

Born Nov. 19, 1938, in Penn Hills, he was the son of the late Edward Anthony Scherder and Mary Virginia Cooper Scherder.

He worked as a builder. Ed was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Cabot and the NRA. Ed was a family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren on the family farm.

Surviving are his loving wife, Virginia Seko Scherder, who he married Feb. 27, 1960; his children, Kimberly Ann (Greg) Fitzgerald of Saxonburg, Bobbie Lee (Robert) Hawranko of Saxonburg, Edward Anthony (Angela) Scherder of Naples, Fla., and Jeannine (Kevin) Mullen of Saxonburg; his sister, Carol Hilyard of Saxonburg; eight grandchildren, Gregory and Carly Fitzgerald, Rachel and Robbie Hawranko, William Edward and Caroline Jean Scherder, and Leelah and Adam Ohayon; two stepgrandchildren, Meredith and Brendan Mullen; and many nieces and nephews. He also was a “second father” to Can Gurel, an exchange student from Turkey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters.

SCHERDER — A private family visitation has been conducted for William Edward Scherder, who died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016.Friends and family are invited to a memorial Mass at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 315 Stoney Hollow Road, Cabot, with the Rev.
