The District 10 football playoffs will begin Friday.

In a Class 5A quarterfinal, Grove City (8-1) will face Central Tech (5-4) at 7 p.m. Friday at Slippery Rock University.

In Class 3A action, Slippery Rock (3-6) will battle Mercyhurst Prep (6-3) in a quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Saturday at General McLane High School.

BUTLER TWP — Two Butler Area Midget Football League teams emerged victorious in the UYFL playoffs Saturday at Art Bernardi Stadium.

The Butler junior varsity defeated Pine-Richland, 45-18, while the varsity team knocked off Seneca Valley, 25-18.

JEFFERSON TWP — Knoch senior track and field specialist Jordan Geist has verbally committed to the University of Arizona.

Geist is the defending WPIAL and PIAA champion in the shot put and discus. He placed third at the National 20-Under Track and Field Championships this past season.
