Donald Wier
Donald Wier, 81 of Edison Manor Nursing Home in New Castle and formerly of Slippery Rock passed away at Jameson Memorial Hospital at 12:25 p.m. Thursday.
He was born in Windham, N.Y. on May 17, 1935 to Rudolph and Laura Kerr Wier.
He married Catherine Mary “Kay” Keough on Oct. 19, 1957 and she preceded him in death on June 2, 2003.
Don retired in 2000 as manager at the Slippery Rock University branch for Laurel Vending Company. He enjoyed cars, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins. He was a member of the Wayside Community Church in Grove City.
Survivors include a son, D. Christopher Wier and wife Kathy of New Castle; daughter, Cynthia L. Wimer and husband Randy of Hermitage; sister, Louise McKee; three brothers, Newton, Alan and Raymond Wier; five grandchildren, Corey Wimer and wife Lisa, Molly Vukich and husband Eric, Justin, Matthew and Nicholas Wier; and two great-grandchildren, Griffin and Jensen Vukich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson Seth Wimer; and two sisters, Dorothy Wier and Marion Connely.
WIER — Funeral services for Donald Wier, who died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Kenton Shaw, retired pastor from Wayside Covenant Church, Grove City, presiding.
Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home in Slippery Rock on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 7 p.m.
Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
