Marilyn Dorothy “Chris” Christie Gould

Marilyn Dorothy “Chris” Christie Gould, 89, of Slippery Rock passed away Friday in Royal Palm Beach, Fla., due to complications from a fall she suffered one week before.

She was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Hilliards, to Beatrice June Dunlap Christie and Lee Eber Christie. She graduated from both Hooker High School, where she was a member of the basketball team, and Butler Business College. She was very proud of her employment at Slippery Rock University, where she worked for many years.

Chris began her career at the college working in the bookstore and retired in 1992 from the Cooperative Activities Office. She married Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Gould on Oct. 15, 1955. They lived in Slippery Rock the entire time of their marriage. He preceded her in death July 22, 2008.

She is survived by her three sons, Donald Wayne Gould and his wife, Stacy, of West Lawn, Pa., Grant Jeffrey Gould and his wife, Kathleen, of Mountain View, Calif., and Lee Brian Gould and his wife, Vickie, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Patrick Gould, Amanda Gould, Jane Gould, Zack Gould, Christine Gould and Shannon Gould.

Chris was very active in the community and had many friends from childhood and from her 60-plus years living in Slippery Rock. She was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church and served as the church treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and held various leadership positions over the years. Some say she was also a pretty good bowler.

Chris was preceded in death by her husband and her four older brothers, Bobby Lee Christie, Howard Keith Christie, Donald Victor Christie and Russell Dale Christie.

GOULD — Memorial services for Marilyn Dorothy “Chris” Christie Gould, who died Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, will be conducted later at the Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock. The date will be announced in the Butler Eagle.The Smith Funeral Home in Slippery Rock assisted with the arrangements.
