Man found dead in city
Butler police are investigating the suspected weekend drug overdose death of a 33-year-old city man.
Joel A. Fobes was found dead shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday at his mother’s house in the 200 block of North Church Street, authorities said.
Butler County Coroner William Young III pronounced Fobes dead at 4:45 p.m. Investigators said that rigor mortis had set in, and the victim had been dead for some time, possibly 12 hours.
It was not immediately known when he got to the house. Family members found his body after forcing open a locked bedroom door.
In the bedroom, police said, were two empty stamp bags of suspected heroin marked “Trauma,” and a syringe.
An autopsy was performed Saturday, according to the Butler County coroner’s office, but a cause of death is pending toxicology results, which are not expected for several weeks.
Butler County Chief Deputy Coroner John Hanovick noted that there were no injuries on the body and the death is not considered suspicious.
