Black Friday in full swing

Even though many stores opened for Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving Day, lines are still long Friday morning.

Deb and Jay Keister of Clarion left their house at 4:30 a.m. and drove an hour to go to Rural King, which was open yesterday, but not overnight.

“He goes shopping with me one day a year,” Deb Keister said.

She explained that they were “probably” the 25 and 26th people in line, waiting outside for the store to open at 7 a.m.

They got everything they wanted — a log splitter, welder, drill press and a few Christmas gifts — except an anti-gravity chair, which they looked for at the back of the store. They later found the sign at the front of the store, but by that time, the chairs were sold out.

The couple will drive home to unload their truck, before going shopping again in Clarion.

“I would like to go to a few others (now), but I think our truck will be full,” Deb Keister said.

Helen Eckstein, who began shopping at 5:30 a.m., also went to the Clearview Mall. She reported some short lines, but other long ones, notably at Rural King and Boscovs.

“I spent most of my time in here waiting,” she said of one store.

George Smith who began shopping much later than the Keisters and Eckstein bought household items and stuff for his kids. However, he didn't get everything he wanted.

Shoppers report that lines at other Butler locations — specially Butler Crossing and Alameda Plaza — have varied throughout the morning.
