Man charged with terroristic threats
ADAMS TWP — A township man was arrested Monday night on charges that he threatened his wife with a gun.
Robert T. Schmitt, 47, was arraigned Tuesday morning and placed in prison on $50,000 bail.
Lori Schmitt went to the Adams Township police station Monday to report the alleged incident.
After coming home from work to their house on Old Orchard Drive, she took one of their dogs outside. While she was outside, he allegedly closed the garage door and was turning off the electricity to the house when she went back inside, claiming that he “wanted to be in the dark.”
A few minutes later, she saw that one of their dogs had urinated on the carpet. While she was cleaning up, Robert Schmitt allegedly came out of the bedroom closet and said to her, “I’m sorry I have to do this to you,” according to the criminal complaint.
When Lori Schmitt looked up, she allegedly saw that he was pointing a silver and black handgun “directly at her face,” according to the police report.
She allegedly asked him several times to stop pointing the gun, though he did not comply, she did get away and was able to grab her purse and leave the house.
The complaint states that Robert Schmitt has a history of problems, though he does not have a criminal record in Pennsylvania.
He is charged with felony terroristic threats, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, and he is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Evans City district court Dec. 13.
