Frank Franko

Frank Franko, 91, of Butler, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side Thursday.

Born March 2, 1925, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late Harry and Julia Druga Franko.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Glenna Lou Gates Franko.

He is survived by six children: William (Elizabeth) Franko of Pittsburgh, Patricia (Raymond) Saeler of Chicora, Nadine (Todd) Shingleton of Slippery Rock, Fred (Meg) Franko of Denver, Colo., Alan (Natalie) Franko of Butler, and Gary (Tara Taylor) Franko of Pittsburgh.

He was loved dearly by his 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Nora) Saeler, Nicole (Mike) Johnson, Ben (Lacie) Shingleton, Sarah (Allen) DiFrischia, Tim (Amanda) Shingleton, Andy Franko, Aidan Franko, Cole Franko, Kiara (Nathan) Oesterling and Kaelee Franko and 14 great grandchildren, Gavin Saeler, Emma Saeler, Elise DiFrischia, Caleb Shingleton, Eilee Belle DiFrischia, Josiah Shingleton, Miles Johnson, Phoenix Ruggles, Liam Johnson, Apollo DiFrischia, Micah Shingleton, Graham Johnson, Emery Shingleton and Axel Oesterling.

Frank was honored to have served his country in the Navy during World War II as a radioman in the Pacific Theater on the oil tanker Kaskaskia. He was also proud of his Carpatho-Rusyn (Slovak) heritage, with many relatives still residing in Europe. He had worked for the Butler Post Office for 25 years.

Mr. Franko enjoyed spending time with his family, dancing and laughing. He was a member of the Senior's Golf League at Stoughton's Golf Course, the Knight of Columbus, the Greek Catholic Union, the American Legion, was a life-long active member of St. John's the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora and had volunteered at the VA Butler Healthcare. He also loved woodworking and had many close friends who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Anderson; five brothers, Michael, John, Andrew, Stephen and Harry Franko, and a grandson.

FRANKO — Friends of Frank Franko, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Ext. in Butler.Friends also will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday.A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev.
