Dr. Richard J. Medve, 80, a longtime Slippery Rock resident, passed away Tuesday.

Dr. Medve was a professor at Slippery Rock University from 1966 until his retirement in 1991. He earned a doctorate in botany from the Ohio State University. He also was a scoutmaster of local Boy Scout Troop 311 in the 1970s.

Surviving are his wife, Marylee Medve; five children, Pam (Jim) Polivka, Steve (Min Hong) Medve, the Rev. Ken Medve, Kathy (Mike) McAuley and Dave Medve; and three grandchildren, Brian and Tracey McAuley and Ian Medve.

MEDVE — Services for Dr. Richard J. Medve, who died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, will be private.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America.Arrangements were by the Smith Funeral Home of Slippery Rock.
