Horace 'Dug' Clair Grossman Jr.
Horace “Dug” Clair Grossman Jr., 64, of Grove City went to be with his Lord and Savior at 5:25 a.m. Sunday in his home surrounded by his family.
He
fought a tremendous battle against serum sickness after receiving a series of “over seas” immunizations in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Born May 24, 1952, in Grove City, he was the son of the late Effie Coast Grossman and Horace Clair Grossman Sr.
In 1971, Dug graduated from Slippery Rock High School, followed by his career as a welder and fabricator until 1983 for General Electric in Grove City.
Dug also was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army Reserves.
Dug was a member of the Branchton United Methodist Church in Branchton, Pa.
He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and making stained-glass windows. A loving husband and father, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Dr. Mary M. Fye Grossman, who he married Oct. 23, 1971, at home; his daughter, Jennifer Ziegler and her husband, John, of Sharon; his sons, Michael Grossman and his wife, Kathy, of Mercer, and Matthew Grossman and his wife, Greta, of Grove City; his sisters, Bonnie Wallace and her husband, Clarence, of Branchton, Pa., Mary Ellen Spence of Butler, Dale Miller of Anderson, S.C.; his sister-in-law, Sandy Applebee of Anderson, S.C.; his brothers, Joe Grossman and his wife, Kim, of Mercer, Marvin Grossman and his wife, Judy, of Prospect, and John Grossman of Slippery Rock; his grandchildren, Troy and his companion, Helena, Eric, Joshua, Allison, Connor, Christian, Gracie and Grant; and one great-grandson, Allan.
Dug enjoyed spending time with his wife's uncle, Gene Fye of Rimersburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold “Tom” Applebee and Kenny Grossman.
GROSSMAN — A memorial service for Horace “Dug” Clair Grossman Jr., who died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, will be conducted sometime in May of 2017.Cremation will take place in the funeral home crematory.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity benefiting disabled veterans.Arrangements have been entrusted to the John Flynn Funeral Home & Crematory in Hermitage, Pa.
