Joseph C. Smith
Joseph C. Smith, 88, of Grove City passed away at 8:25 p.m. Friday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 6, 1928, in Boyers, he was a son of the late Robert T. and Althea L. Kohlmyer.
He was a 1947 graduate of Grove City High School.
Joe retired after 34 years at Cooper Energy in Grove City.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking and over the years made many beautiful cabinets, rocking horses, eagles and many other projects in his woodworking shop.
Joe also enjoyed traveling to places such as Virginia Beach, Va., and California, where he loved to whale watch. Above all, Joe loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they were truly the light of his world.
On Aug. 16, 1948, he married the former Clara A. Lindey, and she preceded him in death April 14, 2000.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Smith and his wife, Marlene, of Grove City, and Garth Smith of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Terry Wogan and her husband, John Thomas, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Loie Varner and her husband, Richard, of Los Gatos, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas M. Smith, and his sister, Bonnie Jean Gardner.
SMITH — Family and friends of Joseph C. Smith, who died Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, will be welcome from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Jamison Funeral Home, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
