Plunge raises $3,500 for charity
The annual New Year's Day Polar Plunge saw 187 people brave the icy waters of the Allegheny River Sunday afternoon.
The plunge has been hosted by the Parker Polar Bear Club for 11 years now. Temperatures around that time were about 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Money raised from the plunge, which on Sunday was about $3,500 according to the club, will benefit several local charities, including Cano Cares, Hunt of a Lifetime, Boys and Girls Club Along the Allegheny, are fire departments and local children in need.
