Man held for court on teen rape charge

SAXONBURG — A 37-year-old man is headed for trial on charges he sexually assaulted a teenage girl for two years when he lived in Penn Township.

District Judge Sue Haggerty on Wednesday ordered Matthew S. Parker, of Minneola, Fla., held for court on rape and other charges following a preliminary hearing in Saxonburg.

Penn Township Patrolman Alyssa Mathews, the lone witness to testify, recounted the findings of her investigation that began Nov. 4 after a referral from ChildLine, the state’s abuse-reporting hot line.

The victim, who is now 16 years old, during a Nov. 7 forensic interview told authorities that Parker began abusing her in 2014 when she was 14.

The alleged victim said when Parker started fondling her, she pushed him away and told him to stop. But he continued his advances, Mathews said, and forced himself on the girl despite her objections.

The sexual abuse would continue through 2015 and most of 2016. She told investigators that the defendant raped her twice — on Sept. 20, 2016.

“She knew exactly when it happened,” Mathews told Parker’s attorney, Leland Clark, who questioned how the girl could be so certain about when she was allegedly raped while not as specific about the other abuse.

The girl also accused the defendant of molesting her “almost everyday,” the officer testified, between Sept. 20 and Nov. 4.

Parker on Feb. 14 faces formal arraignment in Butler County court on charges in the case, including two counts of rape and one count each of aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors and child endangerment, all felonies.

He also is charged with three misdemeanor counts of indecent assault.

Parker remains free on $200,000 bail. Clark declined to comment about the case following Tuesday’s hearing.

The girl, Mathews said, is living with her mother.
