Mary Frances Scialabba
Mary Frances Scialabba, 100, of Butler passed away Monday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Born Jan. 4, 1916, in Greenville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Rose Scali Marks. Mary was one of eight children, and her brothers and sisters, Jim, Joseph, Carl, Dominick Jr., Josephine Morabito, Jenny Nolan, and Mildred Petruso, preceded her in death.
She spent 63 wonderful years with her husband, Peter Scialabba, until his death in 1998. They lived in Butler, but after five years they moved to Fresno, Calif., for 10 years before settling back in Butler where Mary and Peter owned and operated the Spillway Inn.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Marie (late husband Dominick) Bove, of Smithtown, N.Y., and Trina Rockenstein and her husband, Thomas, of Butler; and one son, A. Vincent Scialabba and his wife, Frances Geisler, of New Castle.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Mary was recently blessed with a great-great-grandchild. She never forgot to send them birthday cards.
Her son, Donald Scialabba, and his wife, Judith McCool Scialabba, are both deceased.
Since the death of her husband, Mary lived primarily with her daughter, Trina, and spent shorter stays with her daughter, Marie, and her son, A. Vincent, until moving into the YWCA Personal Care Residence in June, 2016.
Mary and Peter were a happy couple who extended their home to friends and relatives on many occasions. They played golf together for years. Mary was an outstanding cook and enjoyed having family over on Sundays for dinner. She enjoyed reading novels, working on crossword puzzles, playing cards with relatives and friends and the game of Scrabble. Their house was always filled with the aromas of Italian foods and good music.
She was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She never went to bed without saying the rosary.
