John M. Harrison

John M. Harrison, 88, of Butler passed away Monday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born March 5, 1928, in Butler, he was a son of the late Wallace William and Clarice K. Miller Harrison.

He was employed for 34 years as a checker at the Butler Armco, retiring in April 1990.

John was a 1946 graduate of Butler High School, where he played basketball. He also was a graduate of Thiel College.

A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he served in Japan at Camp Magill and Camp Drake. He received the World War II Victory Medal and the Calvary Patch.

John was a member of VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 117 and the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed golf, travel, cars and collecting coins.

He is survived by three daughters, Lynda Harrison of Butler, Jackie Guadagni and her husband, Joe, of Butler, and Cindy Fry and her husband, Carl, of Butler; one sister, Vickie Swigart of Butler; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Harrison.

HARRISON — Funeral services for John M. Harrison, who died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler, with the Rev. Brandon Lenhart, pastor of North Main Street Church of God, officiating.Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 117 and American Legion Post 778.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.For more information, please visit www.martinfh.net.
