Joyce Kummer
Joyce Kummer, 82, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Wednesday at SSM Health Center — St. Mary's.
She was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Butler, the daughter of the late Robert C. and Margaret Ethel Leyland Milsom.
On Dec. 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to Fred Kummer. He survives at the home.
After graduating from Butler High School and throughout her employment career, Joyce worked as a receptionist for a variety of firms, as well as being an activities coordinator for a senior living home and a telephone operator.
In addition to these roles, Joyce was a homemaker and considered motherhood the most wonderful blessing. She welcomed all into her home and was a charming and generous hostess.
Joyce was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, a former president of the X-Club and a member of the Westinghouse/ABB Retirees' Wives Club, and she played in several bridge clubs, a pastime she enjoyed immensely but, as she was the first to declare, with more enthusiasm than expertise.
In all that she did — with wit, kindness and a heart that embraced everyone she met — Joyce made other people feel treasured and valued. She loved well and was well-loved.
Along with her husband, she is survived by six children, Carol (Wilf) Kelsall of Cambridge, England, Fred (Lizette) Kummer III of Huntsville, Ala., Dianna (Dave) Steiger of Jefferson City, Jennifer Boyce of Lohman, Mo., Tom (Vicki) Kummer of Jefferson City, and Steve (Gloria) Kummer of Jefferson City; two siblings, Robert (Joan) Milsom of Pittsburgh and Jenna Reilly of Reading; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Sissy Milsom.
