John E. Knoll

John E. Knoll, 82, of Butler passed away Wednesday at his home surrounded by his family.

Born Nov. 4, 1934, in Chicora, he was a son of the late Frank A. and Mary A. Black Knoll.

John was a self-employed contractor for more than 60 years. In his career, he built many homes, churches and banks.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

He was very close to his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John also was an oil well producer, which he enjoyed along with square dancing, woodworking and gardening.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ritts Knoll, who he married June 14, 1958; five children, Sally (Daniel) Pry of Slippery Rock, Stephen Knoll of Columbia, Md., Miriam (Robert) Shakely of Butler, Melissa (Mark) Kristine of Sarver and Christine (Adam) Alexander of Cranberry Township; 18 grandchildren, Christopher (Cynthia) Pry, Eric Pry, Linda (John) Seibel, Renee (Roy) Hughes, Andrew Shakely, Samantha (Adam) Sparks, Rebecca Shakely, John Kristine, Benjamin Kristine, Hannah Kristine, Samuel Kristine, Jacob Kristine, Grace Kristine, David Kristine, Mary Kristine, Grant Alexander, Gabrielle Alexander and Annabelle Alexander; 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Geibel of Chicora, Monica Glynn of Baltimore, Ohio, Rita Barnhart of Rye Brook, N.Y., Bernedette Huefner of Franklin, Pa., and Betty Neff of Butler; his brothers, the Rev. Lester Knoll, O.F.M. Cap., of Wickcliff, Ohio, and Thomas (Antoinette) Knoll of Chicora; and his sister-in-law, Anna Marie Knoll.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, the Rev. Charles Knoll, O.F.M. Cap., Agnes Pfaff and Donald E. Knoll.

KNOLL — Friends of John E. Knoll, who died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
