Leo Joseph Miller
Leo Joseph Miller, 96, formerly of Middlesex Township passed away peacefully March 5 at the home of his son, Dennis, in Yuma, Ariz., while under the care of Hospice of Yuma.
Born in February of 1921, in Barnesboro, Pa., Leo was a son of Lerman Miller and Clara Fleitz Miller. He married Clara Garrard of Glenshaw, Pa., in August of 1942. After Leo retired, they enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their camper for many years.
When the Pennsylvania winters became too harsh for them they moved to Yuma, Ariz., and lived with their son.
Leo enjoyed hunting for most of his life. He also was well-known for lawn mower and small engine repair in the Glade Mills area. He was an avid gardener for many years. As a hobby, he also handcrafted hundreds of sailor-styled whirligigs. Before moving to Arizona, he was a member of Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills.
Leo was retired from U.S. Steel, where he was a welder.
Leo served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a metalsmith first class and served aboard the USS LST 355. The ship was involved in the invasion at Salerno, Italy, and the invasion of Normandy on D-Day.
Leo is survived by his sons, Dennis Miller and his wife, Lola, of Yuma, Ariz., and Lee Miller and his wife, Regina, of the Villages, Fla.; his grandchildren, Scott Miller, James Miller, Brian Miller, Angela Back, Christopher Miller and Jason Miller; and seven great-grandchildren.
He also is survived by his “other” Middlesex Township kids, Rich and Cindy Loncaric, and their children, Meghan and Andy.
