Thomas “Tom” Anthony West
Thomas “Tom” Anthony West, 75, died Tuesday at an assisted living facility in Phoenix, Ariz., following a long, hard fought battle with heart disease.
He leaves his daughter, Shannon West-Coin; his son, Shawn West; Shannon's two children, Natalie and Camden; Shawn's two stepdaughters, Erica and Bella; his son-in-law and daughter-in-law; and many extended family members and close friends.
Born April 22, 1941, the son of John and Mary Gregory West, he was a lifelong resident of Grove City.
After graduating from GCHS in 1960, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served until 1964. His time with the Navy took him to several Naval bases around the U.S. and two long-term at sea deployments to Japan.
Upon his return from the service, he attended Youngstown State University, and he met his wife, Barbara Craft, while living in Grove City. They were married in 1968, enjoying 48 years of marriage until Barb's passing in 2016.
After serving in the Navy, Tom was employed by George Junior Republic until 1972. It is then that he joined Interstate Chemical, being one of its original employees. He worked for IC for 40 years, retiring in 2002.
Tom had a passion for woodworking; carpentry; his beloved cocker spaniel, Murphy; cooking; and, of course, his family. Also, an avid golfer, Tom enjoyed working part-time in his retirement at Pine Grove Golf Course.
WEST — Visitation hours for Thomas “Tom” Anthony West, who died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Allison of the Church of The Beloved Disciple officiating.
