Chemtai claims Pgh. Marathon

Mars graduate Edinger gets 10th

PITTSBURGH — Jacob Chemtai of Kenya and A.D. Hailemaryam were the men’s and women’s winners of Sunday’s annual Pittsburgh marathon.

Chemtai pulled ahead of fellow Kenyan Betram Keter just before the 23-mile mark and finished the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 15 minutes, 25 seconds. Keter finished second with a time of 2:16:33.

Hailemaryam finished the course with a final time of 2:36:19.

Despite chilly temperatures, there were approximately 40,000 runners from 20 countries participating in the marathon.

Mars graduate Nick Edinger, 25, now living in Beaver Falls and one of the winners of last year’s Butler Road Race, finished 10th overall with a time of 2:21.09.

Cranberry Township’s Dan Carlino, 38, finished 34th in 2:48.38 while Rick Hinman, 34, of Cranberry finished 54th.

On the women’s side, Jessica Uhrin, 20, of Gibsonia was 13th in 3:09.32. Brittany Vogel, 27, of Butler was 56th in 3:31.35.
