A proposal to remember

Megan Achezinski, a second grade teacher at South Butler Primary School, had an end of the school year celebration at Spring Valley Park she will never forget.

What began as an “after school hours” party turned into a marriage proposal from Achezinski’s boyfriend, Jeff Busi.

She said yes.

For weeks Christan Baker, the mother of one of Achezinski’s second-graders, had been planning an after school hours party at the park. The interesting part was that Achezinski had no idea anything other than her students meeting out of school would take place.

Baker organized everything, and Busi was even in on the planning. During the planning process, Busi had asked Achezinski to go home after school and meet her mother and drive to the party with her.

Achezinski said Busi was very persistent leading up to the after school party about getting her mom to come to the party. Plus, he mentioned grabbing dinner after the party.

The party began around 5 p.m., and started with the kids holding signs reading “We love you Miss A.” However, after a short song and dance that left Achezinski with chills, the students flipped the cards over so their teacher could read a special message.

“Will you marry me?” the cards read.

Just then, Achezinski saw Busi arriving to the party walking up a path, dressed in a suit and carrying flowers.

When he arrived, Achezinski said he gave her a proposal speech to which she quickly accepted.

“It was truly heart-warming to see all my students’ reactions — some of the kids were grinning from ear to ear, some were actually crying, some of the boys didn’t so much enjoy the ‘after I said yes kiss’ and had their hands covering their eyes, but it was truly the most special and magical moment of my life,” Achezinski said. “My fiancé knows that my students mean the world to me, so I was over the moon that they were involved with the most special day of my life!”
