Shop 'n Save seeks license to sell liquor
CRANBERRY TWP — Shop ’n Save could soon be selling alcohol.
The township board of supervisors held a public hearing during its Thursday night meeting on the transfer of a restaurant liquor license from Winfield Township to the grocery store at 1197 Freedom Road.
Dan McCabe, owner of the grocery store, said Pennsylvania’s archaic liquor laws are confusing to people who move into the area from other states where they can buy alcohol at supermarkets.
“This is one way for us to service customers that come in,” McCabe said.
The alcohol would be sold in the hot foods department. If the transfer is approved, people will be able to buy bottles of wine and six-packs of beer.
The store is open from 6 a.m. to midnight, although the hours it sells alcohol will be limited, McCabe said.
The transfer will be considered for approval at the supervisors June 1 meeting.
