Wheeler leads BlueSox to win

Butler High School graduate Cory Wheeler singled twice and drove in three runs to help the Butler BlueSox post a 10-8 Prospect League baseball victory at West Virginia Friday night.

Wheeler smacked a two-run single during Butler’s 4-run seventh inning.

Patrick Ferguson went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two driven in for the Sox (2-2).

Butler starting pitcher Bryce Spak earned the win after pitching six innings with six strikeouts and two walks. He left the game with a 10-3 lead, but the Miners scored five runs (two earned) in the eighth and ninth inning off of Butler reliever Ryann Gray.

The BlueSox committed five errors, leading to a total of four unearned runs.

Butler will host West Virginia at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Kelly Automotive Park.
