Beer-bottle beaning lands 1 in prison and 1 in the hospital
CRANBERRY TWP — A child’s birthday bash turned into a beaning Saturday night when a man hit another man over the head with a beer bottle.
The altercation at the home on the 8600 block of Peters Road left one man hospitalized in Pittsburgh and the other man behind bars on assault charges.
Cranberry Township police were called to the home shortly after 10 p.m. for a reported disturbance. Officers got there and found several adults attending a children’s birthday party, police said.
The party-goers advised police that two men had gotten into a fight, according to court documents. One of the men, 30-year-old Josue X. Chaclan, had already gone to the hospital.
Alex Grageda Navarro, 25, of Cranberry Township, who allegedly put him there, was still at the home.
Grageda Navarro told police that he and Chaclan had exchanged words, and Chaclan had punched him in the face.
At UPMC Passavant Cranberry, officers got Chaclan’s side of the story.
“Josue stated that he did strike Alex in the face,” according to police documents, “but Alex then broke a glass beer bottle over his head causing lacerations on his head.”
Police said the alleged victim’s injuries were consistent with his account of what happened.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Grageda Navarro on charges of simple assault and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail following arraignment.
Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said Chaclan would likely face a summary charge of harassment in the case.
