BlueSox lose in 12th

The Butler BlueSox let leads of 3-0 and 4-1 slip away in a 6-4 Prospect League baseball loss at West Virginia Wednesday night.

Dan Ward’s one-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the Miners to victory.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, West Virginia (12-13) plated three runs off Butler reliever Jamie Switalski to tie the game.

James Meeker then worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings before allowing Ward’s game-ending blast.

Brady Gulakowski had three hits for the Sox, including a double, and drove in a run. Tanner Murphy and Pavin Parks both tallied two singles.

Connor Coward had a very strong start on the mound for Butler, surrendering no runs and just one hit with nine strikeouts and two walks over six innings. He was relieved by Jack Herzing, who allowed the Miners’ first run in the seventh.

West Virginia’s Kyle Bergeron picked up the win with two scoreless frames in relief.

The Sox (12-12) begin a two-game series at home tonight against Kokomo.
