Ruth E. Holben

Ruth E. Holben, 94, of Butler, formerly of Meridian, passed away Sunday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 11, 1923, in Petrolia, to the late Clarence Ostrander and Mabel Snyder Ostrander.

Ruth worked at Miller's Shoe Store for 26 years retiring in 1988. She graduated from Karns City High School in 1941. Ruth was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church and St. Fidelis Christian Womens Guild.

Ruth is survived by her four sons, Clarence (Linda) Holben of Butler, James (Cindy) Holben of Chicora, Patrick (Kathleen) Holben of Butler and Gerald (Tammy) Holben of Hooker; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Holben, whom she married July 17, 1941, and who died Dec. 19, 1964; one son, Thomas Holben; one sister, Myrtie Black; one brother, Raymond Ostrander; and one great-granddaughter, Michelle Holben.

HOLBEN — According to the wishes of Ruth E. Holben, who died Sunday, July 9, 2017, there will be no public visitation.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Thursday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler, with the Rev. William Wuenschel officiating. Interment will take place at the Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
