Jim Kelly's father Joe passes away
DUNEDIN, Fla. — Joseph Kelly, the father of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback and East Brady-native Jim Kelly, passed away Monday in hospice care.
He was 88.
Kelly was born in Pittsburgh and later moved to East Brady with his wife Alice, where they raised six sons, according to his obituary.
Kelly was a World War II veteran and worked at Daman Industries as a machinist.
Jim, who went to East Brady High School and later played for the Buffalo Bills for 11 seasons — taking them to four Super Bowls — posted a statement to Instagram Monday.
“Words cannot possibly describe how much I loved my father and how deeply broken-hearted our entire family is right now. I am the man I am today because of the man my father was everyday of his life. He was an awesome example and taught me and my five brothers how to live life and represent the Kelly Family,” Jim wrote.
Visitation and services are planned for Kelly this weekend at Buechele Funeral Home in East Brady.
