George W. Cook Sr.
George W. Cook Sr., 97, of Connoquenessing passed away Saturday morning in the VNA Hospice, Butler.
Born Nov. 9, 1919, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Harry M. and Hazel I. Gensheimer Cook.
George was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Connoquenessing, where he had served on church council and sang in the choir.
He had retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1981 with 40 years of service. He was a member of TCU of AFL-CIO and its political committee.
George proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn J. Hummel Zehmisch Cook on Oct. 11, 2013; three brothers; and three sisters.
George is survived by one daughter, Joan Martin of Bethel Park; four stepdaughters, Linda (Vern) Thompson of West Sunbury, Anne (Bob) Burgard of Callery, Allison Zehmisch of Butler and Linda (John) Charpowtsky of New York; one son, George W. (Aline) Cook of Atlanta, Ga.; four stepsons, Stephen Spisak of Connoquenessing, John (Irene) Zehmisch of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Robert Zehmisch of Pittsburgh and Michael (Jennifer) Zehmisch of Butler; one sister, Mildred Findley of Oregon; one brother, Charles Cook of New Jersey; 15 grandchildren; and a number of great grandchildren.
COOK — Friends and relatives of George W. Cook Sr., who died Saturday, July 22, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City.
