BUTLER TWP — Butler High School is suddenly looking for three head coaches of spring sports teams.

Golden Tornado baseball coach Todd Erdos, boys lacrosse coach Michael Corteau and girls lacrosse coach Ashley Argyros all resigned from their respective positions recently.

“We've got some work to do to get all of our teams in order for next spring, that's for sure,” Butler athletic director Bill Mylan said.

Erdos was 51-45 in five years as Tornado varsity baseball coach, but 49-29 with three WPIAL playoff appearances over the past four seasons. He is resigning due to a work conflict.

“He just can't commit to it anymore,” Mylan said. “Todd was having trouble getting to practices and games on time.”

Corteau was Butler's boys lacrosse coach for the past two seasons. He led the team to seven wins in his first season, nearly doubling the win output from the previous season.

Work commitments are preventing him from returning as well.

Argyros guided the Tornado girls lacrosse team for two seasons. Butler won only three games this past spring in its initial season at the WPIAL Division I level.

The Tornado were 11-5 and reached the Div. II quarterfinals in Argyros' first season. She accepted a teaching position in Houston, Texas, and has already relocated there.

“I'll miss coaching those girls terribly,” Argyros said. “It was a lot of fun and they worked hard. The hardest part about taking this job in Texas was telling my players I was leaving.”

Argyros' new school does not have a lacrosse team and she will not be coaching next season. Like everyone else in the Houston area, she is dealing with Hurricane Harvey.

“We're just getting pounded,” she said. “In my area, it's not too bad But there are people in some parts of Houston losing everything, water already taking out the first floor of their homes. It's so sad.”

Mylan said the baseball job has been posted and interviews will be held in September.

“We're hoping to have a coach hired by October,” he said. “Lacrosse will be more difficult because there aren't that many qualified coaches in that sport out there.

“We have to find two of them. Those hirings may be a month behind baseball.”

Erdos and Corteau could not be reached for comment.
