Rotary honors pharmacy owner
EVANS CITY — A longtime business owner was named Citizen of the Year for his efforts of going above and beyond for his adopted community.
Jeff Mustovic, owner and manager of Evans City Pharmacy, received the honor given out by the Evans City Rotary each year at the borough's Oktoberfest festival.
Lee Dyer, Rotarian and Evans City borough council president, said the Rotary has been recognizing community members for a decade. Members of the Rotary bring forth nominees each year and eventually the list is whittled down to one deserving person.
“They all have a lot for Evans City, and they put the love in their heart where their hands are and move forward,” Dyer said.
Mustovic, who lives in Mars, has owned Evans City Pharmacy at the corner of Main and North Washington streets for 28 years. He bought the business from the previous owner in April 1989, he said.
Mustovic said he was humbled to receive the recognition from the Rotary. “It feels great,” he said. “I feel honored.”
While the pharmacy has a drugstore, it also has a gift shop that sells decorations and other seasonal items, Dyer said. It's great for older residents who can't get to the big stores in Cranberry and Pittsburgh for their odds and ends, he said.
Dyer said Mustovic supports the community service organizations in town like the Rotary, the Lion's Club and other similar groups. He also takes good care of the people in the community through his work as the “friendly neighborhood pharmacist,” Dyer said.
Unlike going to a bigger chain drugstore, Mustovic feels like a trusted member of the family, Dyer said.
“Someone who has taken care of your family, takes care of your medicinal needs, knows your doctors, will raise his hand if he sees an issue with a medication you've been provided,” Dyer said. “He doesn't just run his business. He takes care of the people who use his business.”
