Butler faces tough test in Central Catholic

Butler's Luke Michalek (No. 5) breaks a tackle from Shaler's Justin Aversa (No. 64) to score a first-half touchdown at Butler High School on Sept. 29.

BUTLER TWP — The recent history isn't good.

Then again, history doesn't have to be a factor when Butler (2-3, 1-3) takes on Central Catholic (4-2, 3-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in a Northern Seven football game at Carnegie Mellon University.

The Vikings have outscored the Golden Tornado 239-21 in winning the last five games between the teams, including 49-7 last year.

Central Catholic has lost twice by lopsided scores this season — 40-7 to Cathedral Prep to open the campaign and 47-17 to Pine-Richland last week.

Central coach Terry Totten took a 153-21 record at Central into this season. His resume' includes five WPIAL championships and three state crowns. But his team graduated nine Division 1 football players after last season, including the entire offensive line.

Central's offense is fueled by a pair of Butler County athletes. Senior quarterback Troy Fisher is from Cranberry Township and has committed to Lafayette College. Senior receiver Cam Laconi, from Butler, has 13 catches for 107 yards and is the Vikings' leading pass catcher.

A full report will appear in the Butler Eagle.
