Pedestrian hit by car on Center Ave.
An unidentified Butler woman in her 30s was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital Sunday night after getting hit by a car on Center Avenue, city firefighters said.
The accident was reported shortly before 9 p.m. across from the Butler Food Mart.
Melvin Byers of Butler said at the scene that he and the woman were crossing the street after buying cigarettes at the store.
She was hit by the front bumper of a red sedan, driving eastbound across the Wayne Street bridge, he said. She landed on the sidewalk and was conscious, but had a gash on her head and was complaining of back pain, Byers said.
Several witnesses gave statements to police at the scene.
The Butler police, who were investigating the incident, declined to comment. Butler Ambulance Service and the city fire department also responded to the accident.
