Howard E. Schwan
Howard E. Schwan, 89, of Forest City, N.C., formerly of Mars, went home to the Lord on Sept. 15 at Fair Haven of Forest City.
A beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, uncle and friend, he was born on Feb. 3, 1928, in New London, Wis. He was the son of the late William and Mabel (Beckman) Schwan.
He was a Korean War veteran, Army Field Artillery, from 1951 to 1953. He was also a truck driver and worked at J&L Steel in Aliquippa for 30 years until his retirement.
He attended St. John Lutheran Church in Mars, until he moved to the south permanently in 2013, where he attended Lake Lure Baptist Church until his home-going.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Sarah (Sadie) Jane Reid Schwan, originally of Dunbar; a son, Joseph “Joey” Schwan and his wife, Debra Riggsby Schwan, of Gypsum, Colo.; a daughter, Julie Schwan Hartzog and her husband, Laurie Thomas “Tommy” Hartzog III, of Lake Lure; four grandchildren, Nolan Joseph Schwan, Kelsie Dannon Schwan Irish and her husband, Jeremy Irish, all of Colorado, and Logan Reid Hartzog and Sonora Rose Hartzog of Lake Lure.
Also surviving are his sister, Marilyn J. Lutz of Forest City, N.C.; and brothers, William C. Schwan and Robert L. Schwan and his wife, Thelma Fountain Schwan, of Garrettsville, Ohio.
In addition, Howard had many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones in Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania and in North Carolina, his home part-time and full-time for more than 15 years.
SCHWAN — There was a private family burial service for Howard E.
