George J. Schill
George J. Schill, 78, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late George and Gertrude Fragassi Schill.
A proud 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served on seven submarines: the U.S.S. Tang, the U.S.S. Halibut, the U.S.S. Tunny, the U.S.S. Ben Franklin, the U.S.S. Cobbler, the U.S.S. Lapon and the U.S.S. Los Angeles.
After he left the Navy, George was employed for 23 years as an electrician at RIDC Industrial Park.
He was a member of Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He belonged to the Fleet Reserve Association and Butler City Hunting and Fishing Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa P. Kirby Schill; his devoted son, Gregory Schill of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Violet Altmeyer.
SCHILL — Friends of George J. Schill, who died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler.
Military honors will be accorded at St. Peter Church following the funeral mass by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778, and American Legion Post 117. Burial will take place at the Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
The Women’s Council of St. Peter’s will meet at the church Wednesday at 9:35 a.m. to recite the rosary.
