Sarver man gets 4-8 years for four cases
A Sarver man was sentenced to state prison on four cases in Butler County Court on Thursday, including assault and three cases of fleeing police.
Daniel P. Adamik, 48, was sentenced to a total of 4 to 8 years in a state correctional facility, with 277 days time served, as well as 60 months probation by Judge William Shaffer, as well as pay court costs and a $4,400 in fines.
Adamik previously pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault, three misdemeanor counts of fleeing or eluding law enforcement, resisting arrest and two summary counts of driving while under suspension on Oct. 3.
The charges stem from several cases, on July 3, July 23 and Dec. 10 of 2016, as well as Feb. 4, 2017, all in Buffalo Township.
In the Dec. 10 incident, township police initially charged him with misdemeanor fleeing and the summary suspended license charge. He was later released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
In the July 3 incident, Adamik was initially charged with fleeing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving after an incident in the 400 block of Bear Creek Road, when Adamik was seen driving a vehicle, police attempted to stop him, the vehicle continued onto Sarver Road before traveling back onto Bear Creek Road and stopped in the driveway of Adamik's parents' house.
Police had to pull him out of the vehicle and Adamik refused to put his hands behind his back and continued to struggle with the officer, before officers threatened to deploy a Taser and he complied, court documents state.
He was later released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
In the July 23 incident, township police again charged Adamik with fleeing, summary reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and driving without license. He was later released on $5,000 unsecured bail in that case as well.
The February incident, in which he was initially charged with criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault, resisting arrest, fleeing, and summary traffic violations, occurred on Sarver Road near Route 356 on Feb. 4, after township police said he attempted to run over an officer with his car.
The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over for driving without lights, and the vehicle continued, starting a short pursuit. The officer had to maneuver his cruiser to finally stop the car, and as he approached the vehicle, Adamik put the car in reverse and backed up, with the car slamming into the tree line along the road.
He then put the vehicle in drive and accelerated at an “extremely high pace,” according to court documents, and the officer, who had his gun drawn, had to jump out of the way of the speeding vehicle, police said. The officer was not hurt.
A short pursuit then began, where Adamik drove over shrubs that were in the yard of a home in the 500 block of Sarver Road where his parents live, and the car ended up against a garage door.
Adamik then bailed out of the car and ran off with his pants around his ankles, and was eventually arrested after the officer deployed his Taser.
He was held on $100,000 bail in that case, which was later reduced to $75,000.
Adamik's attorney, Chief Public Defender Kevin Flaherty, asked Shaffer to sentence his client in the mitigated range and give him a county sentence with no probation, because “obviously Daniel's problems are related to mental health issues.”
Adamik spoke, saying he has taken several classes while in the county facility, and was attending mental health treatment.
