Jean Grohman

Jean Grohman, 79, of Saxonburg passed away Sunday at Elmcroft of Saxonburg.

She was born May 10, 1938, in Butler, to the late Earl Coe Grohman and the late Genevieve Davis Grohman.

Miss Grohman earned a bachelor's degree in English from Westminster College. She also earned three master's degrees: one in English and one in education from the University of Pennsylvania and one in library science from the University of Pittsburgh.

She worked as a reference librarian at the Butler Public Library, serving as a rich and generous community resource for nearly 27 years.

Jean loved to read, write poetry and play the piano.

She is survived by two brothers, Edward Davis Grohman of Knoxville, Tenn., and Donald Davis Grohman and his wife, Melinda Hoffecker Grohman, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Margaret Grohman Burns and her husband, Neal Orral Burns, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Elizabeth “Beth” Davis Rowett and her husband, Stanley James Rowett, of Novato, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, for whom she had been a loving aunt.

GROHMAN — Friends of Jean Grohman, who died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, will be received from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 4 p.m., also at the church, with the Rev. Merry Meloy officiating. Private burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.Arrangements were entrusted to Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested in Jean Grohman's name to the Butler Public Library, 218 N.
