Jackson budget passed with no tax hike

Recreation plans to be developed

JACKSON TWP — Jackson Township will see continued infrastructure and recreation developments next year with no tax increase, according to its 2018 budget which was approved by township supervisors at their Thursday meeting.

The budget calls for continued development of roads, trails and other projects as outlined in the township’s comprehensive plans that were passed this year.

These projects include the road and traffic signal improvements, new and updated trails for bicycles and pedestrians, and other recreational amenities as laid out in the recently adopted comprehensive parks and recreation plan.

While the tax rate will remain at 8.25 mills, the value of these mills keeps going up. From October 2016 to October of this year, the value of a mill has increased by $3,500 to $55,376, and the township will also be using grants and various partnerships to help fund projects.

Continued growth and development also has led to an increase in income tax revenue.

This growth has allowed the township to maintain an unassigned general fund balance that exceeds the amount recommended by the Government Accounting Standards Board, according to budget documents.
