Janice H. Baptiste
Janice H. Baptiste, 87, of Butler passed away Friday at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.
Born Nov. 29, 1930, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late George and Clare A. (Mangel) Snyder.
She retired Nov. 30, 1990, from the payroll division at the Butler Veterans Administration Medical Center, following 23 years of service.
She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, where she served as a member of the Catholic Women and Christian Mothers. She was a former volunteer for Butler Meals on Wheels. She was also a member of American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and AARP.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Women's Army Corps during the Korean War. Her first husband, Charles H. Johnston died in the Army, Sea of Japan, Feb. 1, 1954, as a result of a plane crash.
Surviving are three sons, James D. Johnston of Butler, William R. Johnston of California, and Andrew Paul Baptiste of Ohio; a daughter, Ruth Anne Baptiste of Butler; three granddaughters, Amanda (Scott) Tomer of Ohio, Amy (Tom) Kelley of Pittsburgh, and Lauren Baptiste of Ohio; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, George “Pete” Snyder of Butler, and Vance “Tim” Snyder of West Sunbury; three sisters, Patricia (Paul) Cousins of Herman, Nancy “Susie” (Dean) Campbell of Chicora, and Linda Morrow of West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Baptiste, who died June 8 1998; her husband, Joseph L. Baptiste, whom she married July 14, 1956, and who died Nov. 30, 2013; and her two brothers.
BAPTISTE — Friends of Janice H. Baptiste, who died Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler, with the Rev.
