Meals on Wheels needs donations

Mary Pataky, director of Butler Meals on Wheels director, shares photos of the damage when a pipe burst at the program's headquarters, and was discovered Dec. 31, 2017. Meals on Wheels operates out of the basement ceiling of St. Peterís Anglican Church on East Jefferson Street.

While hoagies are being delivered today to help feed the 105 clients of the Butler Meals on Wheels program, monetary donations are needed to get the organization back in operation.

“We need to buy supplies to get us up and running for Monday, Jan. 8,” said Mary Pataky, Meals on Wheels director.

A pipe burst over the weekend in the basement ceiling of St. Peter's Anglican Church on East Jefferson Street, where the program is based.

“We still have to throw everything away,” Pataky said this morning from The Hoagie Shop's former North McKean Steet location. The owner, Travis Frenchak, donated about 170 hoagies to feed clients who are recuperating from illness or who suffer impaired functional ability. Another donor provided funds to buy chips and fruit cups.

To donate, call 724-285-3815 or send checks made out to the Butler Meals on Wheels to 218 E. Jefferson St., Butler, PA 16001.
