Tuesday — Peter J Crawford Jr., 37, no known address, was charged with having marijuana and other drug contraband last month at an apartment on the 300 block of West Cunningham Street.

Police said they were called to the apartment shortly before 7 p.m. Dec. 29 for a reported assault. Officers found a man with a bloody nose. He told police Crawford had punched him, according to court documents.

Police found Crawford in an upstairs apartment, which smelled of marijuana. A search of Crawford, documents said, turned up a bag of suspected marijuana and a crack pipe.

Crawford is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and harassment.

1:44 a.m. Jan. 1 — Jamel A. Barnes, 28, of Concord Township was arrested for drunken driving after he allegedly chased a vehicle filled with seven people.

Police began looking for Barnes after a woman called 911 to report that she was being followed in her car by the defendant, according to court documents. Also in the woman’s car were six other occupants including the Barnes’ girlfriend, Leigha Kelly.

Moments earlier, they all had been at Kelly’s apartment on McGreary Street for a party. But during the party, Barnes had become angry and began breaking things. Kelly said she left with the others at the home.

But Barnes got into his own car and took off after the fleeing vehicle, police said. During the chase police believe Barnes’ car struck a stop sign at West New Castle and North Washington streets.

Police eventually stopped Barnes at West North and North Chestnut streets. He appeared to be intoxicated and he was acting in a “very Irate manner,” a police affidavit said.

He was subsequently taken to the station for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.118 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Barnes was arraigned on charges of reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, hit-and-run, driving without a license and reckless driving. He is free on $6,000 unsecured bail.

Dec. 26 — Two arrest warrants were issued for Joshua P. Luchkiw, 37, on charges he assaulted and threatened his father, Basil Luchkiw, during a domestic dispute on Christmas Eve, at their home on the 900 block of East Jefferson Street.

The defendant is accused in one case of assaulting and threatening to kill the alleged victim Dec. 24. Luchkiw left the home and his father reported the incident to police.

Luchkiw later returned, according to court documents, and “placed his hand over Basil’s mouth and nose attempting to impede Basil’s breathing.” He also told his father that he would “kill him for calling the police.”

Officers spoke to the elder Luchkiw shortly after midnight Christmas Day at Butler Memorial Hospital, where he appeared following the second incident.

The defendant in the first warrant is charged with simple assault and terroristic threats, both misdemeanors. In the second warrant, he is charged with strangulation and retaliation against a victim or witness, both felonies, and simple assault, terroristic threats and intimidation of a victim or witness, all misdemeanors.

Wednesday — Mark A. Sylvia, 62, of Butler Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from one-vehicle rollover wreck last month on McCalmont Road.

Police said Sylvia told them his sport utility vehicle drifted off the road and struck a hillside before rolling over about 10:55 p.m. Dec. 8. He admitted he had been drinking at a bar earlier that night, according to court documents.

He was later arrested after failing field sobriety tests and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results determined his blood-alcohol level was 0.132 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

Sylvia is charged with driving under the influence, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

Tuesday — Police charged Anthony J. Parrotta, 25, of Kittanning with attempting to steal more than $800 in merchandise from the Butler Commons’ Walmart in November.

Police found the defendant about 9:30 p.m. Nov. 26 after they got a call for a shoplifter who had fled the store in a small yellow car, according to court documents. Officers stopped the vehicle in the shopping plaza. Parrotta, a passenger, allegedly gave a bogus name.

Police eventually learned that Parrotta had tried to swipe two hoverboards and a pair of blenders from the store. The merchandise is valued at a combined $894.

He is charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of retail theft as well as false identification to law enforcement authorities.

[naviga:h3]Grove City Police[/naviga:h3]

7:53 a.m. Friday — A car driven by Lisa Vallely, 58, of Grove City ran into the side of a van at South Broad and East Pine streets. Cole Zinn, 20, of Prospect was driving the van. No one was injured but Vallely’s car had to be towed.

Police said they are still investigating the wreck and are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call police at 724-458-7925.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h3]

2:30 a.m. Dec. 27 — Nicole M. Black, 25, of Zelienople was arrested for driving under the influence after she was pulled over for not using her turn signal on South Main Street at Hockenberry Alley.

Police said Black admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. She failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Slippery Rock University police station for a breath test.

Her blood-alcohol level, according to court documents. was 0.121 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Black is charged with DUI, disregarding traffic lanes and failing to use turn signals.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

12:03 p.m. Wednesday — Michelle L. Mills, 41, of Sarver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after a one-vehicle crash at Winfield Road and Edgewood Drive in Winfield Township. An accident report was not immediately available.

Wednesday — Police charged an Erie man with drugged driving in connection with a traffic stop for speeding last month on Route 422 west near Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township

The defendant, Charles R. Lamp Jr., 20, was clocked going 81 mph in a 55 mph zone about 5:50 p.m. Dec. 11, court documents said. He also appeared impaired and admitted to having recently smoked marijuana.

Police took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that subsequently confirmed he had marijuana in his system.

Lamp is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, speeding and careless driving.

Dec. 29 — Kimberly Sue Rape, 38, of Brady Township was charged with having Subutex without a prescription in November at the parking lot at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Main Street in Chicora.

Police said they were questioning Rape about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 28 when she admitted that she had the medication used to treat opioid dependence hidden in her underwear, according to court documents.

She was later taken to Butler County Prison and searched by female staffers, who found her with two Subutex pills. Rape claimed she had a prescription for the drug but failed to provide any proof, police said.

She is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Dec. 29 — Darrin J. Watson, 37, of Hilliards was charged with being nearly three times the legal limit for alcohol stemming from a traffic stop a week earlier in Washington Township. Police said he was pulled over about 1 a.m. Dec. 23 for weaving in his travel lane on Route 38 near Eldorado Road.

Watson admitted that he had been drinking that night, according to court documents, and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

He was taken to the barracks for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.237 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition driving under the influence, Watson is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

Dec. 29 — Justin M. Grooms, 21, of Butler Township and Christian W. Rebmann, 20, of Center Township were caught with suspected drug contraband following a traffic stop earlier in the month in Center Township.

Police said Grooms was driving the car they say was stopped for running a stop sign and weaving on Sunset Drive at Holyoke Road. A consent search of the car, police said, turned up two marijuana grinders and two marijuana pipes.

Grooms and Rebmann are both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police also cited Grooms for a stop sign violation and disregarding traffic lanes.

2 p.m. Dec. 27 — Joshua K. Minehart, 41, of Butler was arrested after state constables found him with syringes and other drug paraphernalia on the 1900 block of Route 8 in Center Township. The constables had taken Minehart into custody on a traffic warrant.

A search of the defendant turned up a case that contained five syringes, three cotton swabs, a metal spoon and other contraband, according to court documents.

Minehart was arraigned on a possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later placed in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail following arraignment.

11:32 a.m. May 31 — A Butler man is facing charges for allegedly attempting to buy a firearm at Sportsmans Supply on Freeport Road in Summit Township. Oscar Sasse is prohibited from buying a gun under the Firearms Act. Further information was not available and the investigation is still pending.

10:52 a.m. June 27 — A Butler man is facing charges for allegedly attempting to buy a firearm at Sportsmans Supply in Summit Township. Raymond Miller is prohibited from buying a gun under the Firearms Act. Further information was not available and the investigation is still pending.

2 p.m. Oct. 21, 2016 — A Butler man is facing charges for allegedly attempting to buy a firearm at Rural King in Center Township. Michael Webb is prohibited from buying a gun under the Firearms Act. Further information was not available and the investigation is still pending.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

4:18 p.m. Wednesday — Police say a 76-year-old Freeport man was driving under the influence on Route 28 in Buffalo Township. The man was pulled over driving southbound near exit 17 and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance. Charges are pending lab results.
