Sgt. 1st Class Jack K. Brown
Sgt. 1st Class Jack K. Brown, USAR (retired), 88, of Butler passed away Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
He was born Sept. 3, 1930, in Armstrong County, and was a son of the late Edward Staley Brown and the late Anna Pearl King Brown.
Jack served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as a sergeant first class in the Army Reserve in 1991.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Mears Coal Co., and a mechanic for McGill Motors, and most recently T.W. Phillips, retiring in February 1993.
Jack was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church, having served on the board of trustees and as a choir member. He was also a member of the Butler Lions Club, where he served as King Lion from 1992 to 1993, VFW Post 249 Butler and American Legion Post 778 Lyndora. Jack enjoyed woodworking, golf, bowling, reading and small remodeling projects.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis L. Sutton Brown, whom he married on Sept. 8, 1953; a son, Randall David Brown of Butler; a daughter, Pamela Sue Schiebel of Butler; six grandchildren, Catrina Brown (Todd) Reichel, Christopher (Serena) Brown, Melissa Schiebel (Ben) Blicha, Joseph Schiebel, Ann (Scott) Schiebel and Joshua Schiebel; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Lillian Reichel, Addison and Logan Brown, and Mason and Elizabeth Blicha; his brother, Ronald (Linda) Brown of Marion Center, Pa.; his sister, Lucille Howells of Marion Center, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herschel Edward Brown and Lloyd George Brown; and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Lynn Brown.
BROWN — Friends of Jack K. Brown, who died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be held immediately following at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Gascoine of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating.Officers and members of VFW Post 249 Butler, American Legion Post 117 Butler and American Legion Post 778 Lyndora will conduct military honors at the funeral home.Burial will take place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N.
