Ruth Maxine Bortmas

Ruth Maxine Bortmas, 88, passed away Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

A daughter of the late John and Florence Young of Portersville, she was raised on a dairy farm.

Ruth graduated from Portersville High School and attended Butler Business School, where she met her husband-to-be, Leeland Bortmas.

She worked at Butler Eagle Printery.

Ruth married Lee in 1949 and went on to raise three children. She worked as the office manager of Bortmas, the Butler Florist and retired in 1997.

As a homemaker, she dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Butler Order of Eastern Star Chapter 45, a past Butler Kiwanis Club member, a prior Girl Scout leader, and member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she also taught Sunday school.

Ruth also was a volunteer at the Butler County Historical Society Office. Later in life, Ruth and Lee became members of North Main Street Church of God.

Surviving are her husband, Leeland V. Bortmas, whom she married on Sept. 1, 1949; one sister, Mary Virginia Young of Portersville; a son, Ronald (Elda) Bortmas of Phoenix, Ariz.; her daughters, Debbie (Joe) Minton of Saxonburg, and Polly (Bob) Palermo of Butler; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Jean Badger Lefever.

BORTMAS — Visitation for Ruth Maxine Bortmas, who died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
